                                                                       Germany Social Media
As many people know I am staying in Germany for about a year, and i have to say some of the things I have observed here are quite different. Some things really annoy me and i have to get a couple things off my chest. First off : seeing kids from my town (in america) on Facebook complaining about Syrian refugees and how they "Want to move to Texas because Texas isn't accepting any Syrians" First of all i think ignorant statements such as this are just that, ignorant. Syria is in a time of need, making comments about how you want to move away from people that aren't from america is racist and disrespectful. We have 3,000 refuges A DAY coming into Rosenheim. They are just trying to get away from war. I don't think 3,000 people come into Silver City a day, you are not greatly affected by innocent people trying to get away from war, nor is your town. I think it all hit me as i was coming back on the train to Rosenheim from Austria and seeing police having to remove a woman and her child who had traveled from Syria off the train. Then stepping out of the train seeing rows and rows of white tents where people are struggling to survive. I have NEVER seen anything even slightly similar in Silver City, or New  Mexico at all.
Next I'd like to talk about the Paris attacks. This topic has been talked about so much especially on social media with tags like "#prayforparis or #prayfortheworld" Facebook has gone so far as to have a filter that temporarily goes over you profile picture. to show your support. Again I saw a post about this subject that upset me to say the least. The link to the post is here:

I don't think anyone believes that by changing your profile picture you are helping Paris, that's not the point of the flag. The point is to show your support for France. I think this post is designed to make people second guess their continued support for France weather or not they actually "Help" Paris or not. this page continues making a joke about terrorism through multiple posts. Terrorism. Is. Not. A. Joke.
Ill leave this blog at that.

Today is the 5th and final day of Tech Trek, I'm having lots of fun with my roommate, and enjoying the ability to exercise in the mornings. Today I started out the day by going to the college track and running a couple laps, then I turned tires for about 15 minutes, and had to go back to the dorms. After a quick wash-up, I headed down to eat and then I went to my core class, App Inventor. I figured out how to improve my app, although it was still not where I wanted it to be by today. I was a bit disappointed to have an unfinished app that I had to show because I knew I could have been so much better, but it just didn't come out. So tomorrow I wont be presenting my app :( . After my core class I ate lunch and went down to Hippie Hill to take photos. Shortly after I went to my first elective where I studied probability. It was a hands on class taught by my dorm Monitor Cheri Birch. It was an interesting class where we were interacting and having fun the whole time. Next I went to my other elective for the day called Faces Of Cancer. I pictured the class a little differently but it was a good class all the same. We mostly  talked about the causes of cancer, but after a while we switched to an activity where we pretended to be people who had cancer (we read off note cards) and told "our" stories. -Miriam

Today is the third day of Tech Trek!! We are about to go get ready for the banquet, so I am going to make this post short... Today I did Designing With Architecture in Mind basically we had to make a scale model of a building, and we had a design we had to follow. Our group was not very successful because we had little group dynamic, and disagreements got in the way of work. After that I went to River Assessment  I really enjoyed this because I have done lots of river work before this, so I knew exactly what needed to be done. I was the only one who was allowed to use the D-Net, and I ended up catching 9-10 Cray Fish.

Tech Trek Has been fun so far, but I already miss my family. I like the more hands on activities and I enjoy challenges.
